It has been reported that the House of Representatives will now focus on “game-changing economic measures” such as the Philippine (Fair) Competition Act and the rationalization of the income tax system.
The announcement was made by House Speaker Feliciano “Sonny” Belmonte Jr. who earlier declared last year when he sponsored House Bill 1133 that the 1987 Constitution expressly provides that “the State shall regulate or prohibit monopolies when the public interest so requires.” The Constitution also stipulates that “no combinations in restraint of trade or unfair competition shall be allowed.”
